The Golden Eaglets created more chances on the day, but they could not convert their chances
Golden Eaglets defender Yahaya Lawali has rued their 1-0 loss to Morocco on Wednesday despite creating the game for most parts, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nigeria played Morocco on Wednesday in their second fixture of the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations. However, the game did not go according to plan. The Moroccans got in front in the second minute through an own goal from Tochukwu Ogboji, but the Golden Eaglets were unable to claw their way back.
Coach Nduka Ugbade’s team registered 27 attempts on goal, but none was able to rattle the net.
Speaking after their loss, Lawali, who won the Man of the Match Award- for the second consecutive game admitted that he was not satisfied with the result.
“I have mixed feelings being named man of the match,” Lawali told CAF Media.
“It is a good thing for me but as a team, we are sad that we lost the match today. It was a critical game for us and it is heartbreaking to lose.
“We are heartbroken that we couldn’t take our chances, but we are sure to do better in our next match. We will work to ensure we are better and more efficient with scoring.”
Nigeria play South Africa in their final group game, and they would need just a draw to seal their place in the next round.
