U17 AFCON: Algeria’s two-goal hero reveals admiration for Super Eagles star with 107 career goals

Moslem Anatouf, the top scorer of the TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations, Algeria 2023, has revealed his admiration for Nigeria and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 17-year-old forward has become the talk of the town after he scored both goals in Algeria’s opening match against Somalia U17, leading them to a 2-0 victory.

In a chat with CAFOnline, Anatouf spoke about his ambitions for the tournament and his admiration for Osimhen, whose star also shone at the U17 tournament in 2015.

Anatouf mentioned that he is familiar with the story of Victor Osimhen, and it is motivating for young players like him.

Anatouf expressed his desire to replicate Osimhen’s path, stating that the Nigerian international has set an example for him in his career, and he is determined to go all the way just as Osimhen did.

What was said?

“I personally have been very familiar with the story of the Nigerian international, Victor Osimhen,” Anatouf said.

“His story is motivating for young players, and this competition is a great platform for players to shine and give themselves a chance to be scouted, especially since there are several clubs following the matches.”

The youngster added: “He (Osimhen) is a player who has set an example for me in my career and I am determined to go all the way just as he did.”

Victor Osimhen scored four goals for Nigeria at the 2015 Afcon and added a record ten goals at the FIFA U17 World Cup later that year to propel the Golden Eaglets to glory.

The 24-year-old has gone on to enjoy more success, having fired 107 career goals for club and country since he became a professional.

Osimhen is on the verge of lifting the first league title of his career as his 21 goals have pushed Napoli within touching distance of a first Scudetto in 33 years.
