Osimhen’s goal hands Napoli their third Italian Scudetto after 33 years

Victor Osimhen became the second Nigerian to win the Serie A tite, joining Obafemi Martins

Nigeria international, Victor Osimhen, scored the winning goal to give Napoli their first Italian title since 1990.

The Neapolitans faced off against Udinese at Dacia Arena and drew 1-1, winning the Serie A title for the third time in club history.

A late strike by Salernitana delayed last Sunday’s title celebration by the Parthenopeans until matchday 33.

Udinese was also eager to ruin their celebration by giving Luciano Spalletti’s team a tense start, and they did so in the 13th minute when an unmarked Sandi Lovric scored from inside the penalty area.

After that, Nigerian superstar Osimhen had several chances to respond with a goal for Napoli, but he sent one header into Marco Silvestri’s hands and another to the far post.

Osimhen’s crucial goal, which ended their 33-year scudetto drought, was scored seven minutes after the game resumed after Spalletti’s pep talk. Silvestri had palmed Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s low shot into the path of the Super Eagles striker, who blasted the ball into the top left corner of the net.

Piotr Zielinski tried to give the Gli Azzuri the win, but the 32-year-old goalkeeper stopped him.

After a few failed efforts to gain an edge in the game, a crowd of more than 11,000 travelling fans were ecstatic to hear the final whistle, sparking scenes of joy.
