Free-scoring Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi has emerged as one of the top three contenders for the prestigious Marc-Vivien Foé award, which recognizes the best African footballer who played in Ligue 1 during the 2022-2023 season, Soccernet.ng reports.
RFI announced on Friday, May 19, that Moffi had made it to the final shortlist, alongside Seko Fofana from Ivory Coast and Chancel Mbemba from Congo.
This recognition places Moffi among the elite few who have excelled in the French league.
Having moved from Lorient to Nice mid-season, the 23-year-old Super Eagle faced the challenge of adapting to a new team and environment.
However, this transition did not hinder his exceptional goal-scoring abilities.
OGC Nice have recognized Moffi’s potential and aim to utilise his skills to bolster their national and European aspirations.
Winning the award would be a remarkable achievement for Moffi, especially considering his journey from starting his professional career in lowly Lithuania to establishing himself as a formidable force in Ligue 1.
Throughout the season, the former Kortrijk center-forward has consistently impressed his fans with captivating performances.
Moffi’s prowess in front of goal has not gone unnoticed, and his inclusion in the final three contenders for the Marc-Vivien Foé award is a testament to his exceptional talent and dedication.
Notably, Moffi follows in the footsteps of Victor Osimhen, the last Nigerian player to win the coveted Marc-Vivien Foé Award in 2020.
The winner of the Marc-Vivien Foé Prize will be announced on May 30.
