Hertha Berlin had a slim chance of survival, but they fluffed it in the end
Super Eagles forward Chidera Ejuke has suffered relegation with his Hertha Berlin side after a dramatic 1-1 draw against Bochum, Soccernet.ng reports.
Hertha Berlin needed a victory from their fixture against Bochum at the Olympiastadion to keep their hopes of survival alive. Super Eagles dribbler Ejuke was named in the matchday squad for the fifth consecutive game since he returned from a long-term injury. However, he started the game from the bench.
The game was pretty balanced, with both teams canceling out each other. But Hertha Berlin finally got their breakthrough in the second half through Lucas Tousart in the 63rd minute.
Ejuke was introduced into the game in the 65th minute, and as usual, he displayed the usual ingredients of his game. He registered four dribbles in 25 minutes, two shots, one of which hit the woodwork.
The 25-year-old forward also won five of his six duels and attempted four crosses.
Unfortunately for Hertha Berlin, they conceded a goal in the fourth minute to stoppage time. Keven Schlotterbeck sent a powerful header into the net to make it 1-1.
The result means leaves Hertha Berlin in the 18th spot, four points behind Bochum who just sit above the relegation zone. With one game left, it would be impossible for them to survive relegation.
Ejuke is on a season-long loan, and he will return to CSKA Moscow at the end of the season. He has one year left on his contract at his Russian employers.
