Africa Football Business Summit 2023 gets September date

The second Africa Football Business Summit will take place on September 14th and 15th, 2023, in Nairobi, Kenya.

Following a successful inaugural edition held in October 2022, The Football Foundation for Africa plans a more impactful event to continue our agenda to shape the African football industry. Africa Football Business Summit 2022 brought together over 120 delegates from more than ten countries with 20-plus speakers, 15 insightful interviews, panel discussions and presentations, and 1 Workshop, a resounding success for our budding organisation.

Panellists at the AFBS include Brian Wesaala, Cynthia Mumbo and Tony Mamodaly of TSG Hoffenheim

As Africa looks to leverage the FIFA World Cup 2022 success, we must embrace a holistic approach beyond on-field performance to build a sustainable football ecosystem. For this reason, unique platforms such as AFBS that bring together different stakeholders to learn, share experiences and create business opportunities for the game’s development are critical.

Tanzania Football Summit

This second edition will see Africa Football Business Summit merge with Tanzania Football Summit (TFS) to grow its global reach and impact. The move also sees FFA make changes in its management structure. Peter Simon Shankunkuli comes in as Director (Commercial Development). The merger will see two new members of the FFA Advisory Board, including the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Head of Stakeholder Relations and Communications Connie Motshumi (South Africa) and Rector at Eastern Africa Statistical Training Center, Dr Tumaini Katunzi (Tanzania).

They join Amb (Hon) Mohamed Shidiye (Chair), Dev Kumar Parmar, Peninah Kanyua, Cathy Kamau and Edwin Seno. Also joining the FFA is Janet Mbula, a long-time volunteer from Project Management Institute (Kenya). Ms Mbula will serve as PMO Director. Janet was instrumental in the success of the inaugural Africa Football Business Summit and now takes up an official role.

What to expect

Continuing from the success of AFBS 2022 and combining it with TFS, Africa Football Business Summit 2023 promises an enriching and exciting experience for attendees. We expect over 350 delegates drawn from across the globe. Top football personalities, such as Anthony Baffoe (Ghana), Khalilou Fadiga (Senegal), Doctor Khumalo (South Africa), FIFA’s Sarah Solemale (France), former SAFA vice-president Ria Ledwaba (South Africa) have already confirmed participation.

AFBS will use a conference format with keynote addresses, panel discussions, workshops and an exhibition. We will organise the topics across six themes: Leadership and governance, the future of sports media and broadcasting, financing grassroots football development, infrastructure development, innovation and technology and sustainability.
