The Nigerian attacker has scored 4 goals in his last two appearances for Nottingham Forest
Stoke City legend, Garth Crooks, is impressed by Taiwo Awoniyi’s performance for Nottingham on Saturday against Chelsea.
When his side headed to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea on Saturday, the Nigerian sensation reestablished himself by scoring twice for the Reds.
Following this, Crooks said that the Nigerian international has improved this season and that he has recently pleased him.
Awoniyi has been nominated twice for the English Premier League Team Of The Week as a result of his four goals in his past two games, which have come at a time when the Reds are really fighting to remain in the division.
Crooks commenting on BBC Sports, revealed that the Super Eagles attacker is currently giving Nottingham Forest the lifeline to stay in the Premier League.
“Taiwo Awoniyi’s two goals not only exposed their defensive frailties but provided Forest with a Premier League lifeline.
“The Nigerian striker struggled, as did his team, in the first half of the season, but regular readers will note I said the only way Steve Cooper’s Forest could survive was if the owner stopped buying players mid-season and allowed the manager to create a team.
“The World Cup break also bought Cooper time to do precisely that. Meanwhile, Awoniyi has grown into a player, and Forest now has a real chance of survival.” he said.
The former Union Berlin striker has taken some time to settle at the City Ground, and will be looking forward to continuing his impressive performance when they host Arsenal.
