Leicester City currently sits two points from safety in the English Premier League standings
Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, shared his thoughts on life under Dean Smith after Brendan Rodgers’ replacement, Soccernet.ng reports.
Dean Smith was named Leicester City’s interim manager after Brendan Rodgers’ dismissal and will serve in that capacity till the conclusion of the 2022–2023 campaign.
The Nigerian star, however, revealed that since the takeover of the 52-year-old, he had made a positive impression on the players in training.
Rodgers led the Foxes to a dismal season-long campaign that resulted in a tough battle against relegation. The Foxes are now sitting in 18th place on the standings after losing 17 of their last 28 games.
However, this resulted in his dismissal, and a former Norwich manager was hired to lead the squad through the remainder of the season.
Speaking to LCFC TV before the trip to Manchester City, Ndidi discussed the impact which the manager has already had on the entire team.
“It’s been intensive. The intensity is really high. Training has been really good. We’ve been trying to get our confidence back and to put things together because we know we are players with great qualities, so it’s just about sticking together,
“Confidence is massive for us at this moment. It can bring out your qualities on the pitch as a team, so this is what we need now. Confidence has been low, but it’s not something we have to dwell and keep looking back on. We have to move forward.
“When we’re in games and the way we’re playing, you can see things are not going well for us at the moment. It’s difficult to take in, because we know, looking around, the players we have. Something was off somewhere and coupled with the fact that we’re not in a good position, there’s lots of pressure also.” he said.
On Saturday, the East Midlands will visit the Etihad Stadium in an effort to revive their slim chances of avoiding the drop.
