French football expert Clément Carpentier has praised Super Eagles striker Josh Maja after the former Sunderland star scored twice in Bordeaux’s 3-0 win over Grenoble in Ligue 2, Soccernet reports.
Carpentier commended Maja for his crucial role in the game, stating that the young striker has been a formidable box player and goalscorer this season.
In the gameweek 32 encounter, Girondins de Bordeaux aimed to reclaim second place in the league when they faced Grenoble. The visitors hit the crossbar from a corner early in the game, but Bordeaux managed to hold them off thanks to some impressive saves from their goalkeeper, Rafal Straczek, and defender, Yoann Barbet.
Bordeaux finally found their breakthrough just before the half-time whistle when Barbet headed for Maja to tap in the opening goal.
The young striker scored his second goal in the second half after picking up a rebound from Aliou Badji’s blocked shot.
French pundit Clément Carpentier showered praises on Maja, who now has 15 league goals in an exceptional campaign.
“It’s starting to be quite a few times this season that we say thank you, Josh Maja,” Carpentier said. “But we’ll say it!
“The young Nigerian striker scored another double against the Isérois, but above all, he allowed the Girondins de Bordeaux to break the Grenoble lock after forty minutes of play and to launch the Bordeaux festival.
“A first fox goal at the far post, a second narrowly with a big shot in the skylight: two gestures like Josh Maja. Yes, he’s not the most flamboyant of Ligue 2 strikers, but what a formidable box player and goalscorer.
“We shouldn’t promise Josh Maja a lot, and it’s starting to make for a nice total of goals this season: he scored his 14th and 15th goals of the season in Ligue 2 on Monday evening. He is now the third top scorer in the championship.”
With the win, Bordeaux has strengthened their promotion credentials and maintained their position in the top two of the Ligue 2 table. Maja’s impressive performance has also seen him become the third top scorer in the championship.
