Leicester City had failed to win any of their last ten games, but Iheanacho’s brilliance helped stem the tide
Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho scored for Leicester City to end their ten-game winless streak with a 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers Soccernet.ng reports.
Leicester had picked just one draw from their last ten games, losing nine in the process. However, Dean Smith was looking to end their poor form when they welcomed Wolves to the King Power Stadium.
Iheanacho was employed to play behind English striker Jamie Vardy, while Wilfred Ndidi was left on the bench.
Smith’s decision eventually paid off, as Iheanacho was in his elements on the afternoon.
Wolves scored through Matheus Cunha in the 13th minute. But Leicester City got back into the tie 20 minutes later.
Jamie Vardy was fouled in the box, giving Iheanacho a date with Jose Sa in the penalty box. The Super Eagles star made no mistake from the spot, as he sent Sa the wrong way to pull one back for Leicester City and make it 1-1.
Wolves were hungry, but Leicester City held their lines. Ndidi was introduced into the game in the 67th minute, and his presence was impactful, as eight minutes later, Timothy Castagne scored to make it 2-1 for the Foxes.
Iheanacho had a great game, and his runs and adept touches helped to keep the Wolverhampton defense line on their toes. He was taken off in the 88th minute for Nampalys Mendy.
The former Manchester City man registered two shots on target in the game and had two successful dribbles.
It ended 2-1 for Leicester City, and the victory takes them above the relegation zone. Iheanacho is now the joint third-highest-scoring Nigerian in the Premier League alongside Shola Ameobi with 43 goals. Only Yakubu Aiyegbeni(95), Nwankwo Kanu(54), and Efan Ekoku(52) have scored more.
