“I stand a chance to surpass him”- Victor Osimhen challenges ex-Man City player’s record

This season, Victor Osimhen has been on fire for the Neapolitans, scoring 25 goals across all competitions

Super Eagles star, Victor Osimhen, believes he has a chance to surpass the accomplishments of George Weah, the three-time African Footballer of the Year.

With 45 league goals for Napoli, the Nigerian sensation is only one goal away from matching Weah’s Serie A record of 46 goals.

The 1995 Ballon d’Or winner, however, was considered by the Nigerian star as the finest African player to play in Serie A due to his many accomplishments while competing in the Italian League.

The former Paris Saint-Germain player earned many awards while with AC Milan, including African Footballer of the Year, Ballon d’Or, and Onze d’Or.

Nigeria’s Osimhen is on pace to break the record in only three seasons, but he acknowledges that the former African POTY is still one of the best players in the continent.

“He (George Weah) has to be considered one of the greatest African strikers that graced Serie A. I want to continue to do my best and continue to do well for myself and for my team. “ he admits in a chat with Moor Sportz

The Nigerian striker sustained an injury while representing his country internationally, and neither the club nor his supporters are aware of when he would be able to return.

However, the Nigerian who commented on Weah’s record is certain that he has a chance to beat or match it before the end of the Serie A 2022–23 season.

“At the end of the season, I think I stand a chance to surpass him or meet the record. I didn’t have the opportunity of watching him play, and I have never met him.” he continued.

The attacker also acknowledged his relationship to Weah’s son and said that he serves as an example for other African players.

The Super Eagles talisman added: “But I’m closer to his son, Timothy Weah. His father is a huge example for us so that an African can also win the most prestigious prize in world football.”

Before moving to Ligue 1, Weah signed up for a loan with Chelsea before later switching to Manchester City towards the end of his professional career.
