Union Saint-Gilloise’s striker Victor Boniface has been tipped to break the club’s transfer records as he is being targeted by some of Europe’s biggest clubs in the summer transfer window.
The Nigerian, who has been instrumental in Union’s impressive run this season, has caught the attention of AC Milan as a potential replacement for Divock Origi.
Bob Peeters, the former Belgian football player and the current manager of Helmond Sport, made this bold prediction about Boniface in an interview with Play 6 (as per Voetbal Belgie).
The 49-year-old praised the striker’s strength, speed, technique, and scoring ability, calling him a top striker with limitless potential.
“He is going to break all records,” Bob Peeters said.
“Union brought in a better striker than Undav with Boniface. He has strength, speed, technique, scoring ability. A top striker. The sky is the limit for him.”
Boniface, who arrived at Union SG from Bodo/Glimt for two million euros, has been in top form for the Brussels-based club, scoring 15 goals and providing nine assists in 43 appearances.
The 22-year-old is the Europa League’s leading scorer with six goals which has given the unfancied Belgian club the chance of making it to the semi-finals of the competition.
Soccernet.ng reports that Boniface is expected to receive his first Super Eagles call-up by the middle of the year.
The youngster’s market value is now estimated to be around 6 million euros. If he does leave Union in the summer, he could potentially become the most expensive departure in the club’s history.
Deniz Undav currently holds the record for the most expensive departure in Union SG’s history. The German-Turkish forward was sold to Brighton & Hove Albion for 7 million euros last season. Casper Nielsen, Dante Vanzeir, and Youssoufou Niakaté are the other players who have left the club for significant transfer fees.
