Middlesbrough’s sensational striker, Chuba Akpom, has secured a place in football history as he was named the EFL Player of the Season for the 2022-23 season.
The dynamic forward’s undeniable talent and eye-catching performances earned him this prestigious award, which he accepted in style at the glitzy EFL Awards 2023 ceremony held at the iconic Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
Akpom’s incredible goal-scoring exploits throughout the season saw him net an impressive 28 goals in the Sky Bet Championship, making him the division’s leading goal scorer.
His prowess in front of the net has been breathtaking, with his goals being crucial to driving Middlesbrough’s promotion bid forward despite a slow start to the campaign.
The ceremony was attended by some of football’s biggest names, including star players, respected managers, and revered club officials, who joined in celebrating Akpom’s impressive accomplishment.
After receiving the award, the 25-year-old expressed his gratitude and delight, saying, “I am super grateful. It has been years of hard work to get to this stage, so I am over the moon. It’s been an amazing season, but I’ve had a lot of downs, getting injured earlier in the season. The new manager came in at the perfect time, and he probably brought out the best in me, put me in the number 10, and I’ve been enjoying it ever since.”
Akpom’s outstanding contribution to Middlesbrough’s success cannot be overstated. And the former Arsenal star will undoubtedly continue to shine as he seeks to propel his team to promotion glory in the remaining games of the season.
Boro have already secured their playoff spot, and they currently sit in an impressive fourth place in the Championship standings.
