Why Rangers, Fulham, and other European clubs could struggle to sign Josh Maja

The Nigerian star’s impressive performance for David Guion’s men has caught the attention of various European teams.

Many European clubs, including Fulham and Glasgow Rangers, will apparently have trouble luring Josh Maja away from Girondins de Bordeaux at the completion of the current campaign.

The Super Eagles forward’s contract with the French team, which he joined in January 2019, is up in three months, therefore he might be leaving the Matmut Atlantique Stadium.

Soccernet is aware that the Ligue 2 team has the option to extend Maja’s contract if they get promoted to Ligue 1 at the conclusion of the current campaign, per a football insider.

The Gironde-based team is presently in second position in Ligue 2 with 50 points, 1 point ahead of FC Sochaux in third place.

At the conclusion of the season, the top two clubs in France’s second division get promoted, with Bordeaux presently holding onto the second position.

Considering how hard the current promotion fight is, Rangers, and other teams in Europe, are now keeping an eye on what unfolds.

Maja has played 31 times for Bordeaux in all competitions this season, contributing four assists and 13 goals.

And yet, this has drawn the attention of a few European clubs, including the Gers, who want to recruit him for free at the conclusion of the current campaign.

While the 24-year-old attacker has not made any comment, the promotion of the Marines and Whites will be the lone factor in determining his exit from France.
