“We could’ve won 6-1” – Peseiro points to the main cause of Super Eagles’ mixed results against GB

The West African giants claimed their pound of flesh against the Djurtus to take back control of their Afcon-qualifying control

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, has expressed mixed emotions after Nigeria won one and lost one of their back-to-back games against Guinea-Bissau in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

After losing the first game at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, Peseiro’s changes avenged that defeat, edging past the Djurtus 1-0 at the September 24 Stadium in Bissau on Monday night.

Nantes winger Moses Simon netted the winning goal from the spot on the half-hour mark after enterprising right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel was brought down inside the box.

Peseiro, while speaking in his post-match interview, expressed disappointment in the team’s inability to convert scoring chances, stating that they could have won by a larger margin in both games.

“We could have won 6-1 in Abuja and 5-0 here in Bissau today because we played better on Friday than today. But that’s football, sometimes you play better than your opponents, but the result will show otherwise,” the Portuguese tactician said.

Despite the mixed results, Peseiro remains optimistic and focused on the next match as the Super Eagles prepare to travel away to Sierra Leone for their next match on Sunday, June 11, 2023.
