Super Eagles-eligible star Akpom shares the secrets to Middlesbrough’s recent successful run

Boro returned to the Premier League in 2016, was immediately relegated, and have not returned to the top flight since

Middlesbrough forward, Chuba Akpom, has shared the keys to Middlesbrough’s successful run in the year 2023.

The Michael Carrick-led side has won six of its past seven Sky Bet Championship games, and in 2023, it has triumphed in all eight of its 10 domestic league games.

The Super Eagles-eligible player, who has, on the other hand, been instrumental in Boro’s effort to gain promotion to the first division, has acknowledged that the team’s offensive threat has aided the third-place team.

With 21 goals in 28 domestic league games for the club, Akpom has shown to be more of an attacking threat to their opponents. Moreover, Akpom is now topping the Championship top scorer’s table with 4 goals ahead of Coventry City’s Viktor Gyökeres, who has 18.

The British-Nigerian, when quizzed about the secret to their successful run, stated that the key is their powerful depth in the squad.

“That’s the importance of having good depth,” he told BBC

The 27-year-old further explained: “It’s one thing having depth, but another having good depth – having good players coming in, and you won’t see the team unbalanced.

“That’s what we have. All over the pitch, we’ve got unbelievable players, and on the bench, we’ve got unbelievable players ready to play when they’re chosen.”

With 60 points, the Riverside-based team is currently in third place in the standings, 7 points behind second-place Sheffield United and 17 points behind league-leading Burnley.
