Super Eagles coach wins second title of his managerial career

The former flying winger won numerous honours during his active days, and he sealed his second cup win on the bench at the weekend

Former Nigerian international and Super Eagles assistant coach Finidi George led Enyimba International to lift the Abia State FA Cup on Sunday evening, sealing his second managerial title.

Enyimba defeated Ahudiya Nnem FC 4-1 in the final played at the Enyimba Stadium.

Despite being a highly-rated non-league side, Ahudiya had to settle for the runner-up position after their impressive run to the final was cut short by Enyimba.

Moses Omoduemuke scored a brace, while Emeka Obioma and Ikenna Cooper added one each to secure Enyimba’s victory.

Finidi, who was appointed Enyimba’s manager in September 2021, had previously won the Abia FA Cup with the team last year.

The former right winger had a successful playing career, featuring for Sharks, Ajax, Real Betis, Mallorca, and Ipswich Town.

Finidi’s most successful time was with the Dutch giants, where he won three Eredivisie titles, the UEFA Super Cup, the Intercontinental Cup, and the UEFA Champions League.

He was also a key member of the Super Eagles squad that won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia. He also represented Nigeria at their first World Cup appearance at USA ’94.
