Osimhen: Three shots, two goals – How Napoli star masterminded Eintracht Frankfurt’s ruin

The Nigeria international put up a performance worthy of praise against the German elite division outfit

Victor Osimhen put up an awe-inspiring display as Napoli silenced Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 in Wednesday’s Champions League encounter.

The Super Eagle was among the goal scorers as Parthenopeans overcame the German elite division outfit 2-0 in the Round of 16 first leg in Waldstadion.

In Naples, Osimhen stole the show with two goals to win the man-of-the match award as the Serie A outfit qualified for the last eight on a 5-0 aggregate triumph.

On the stroke of half time, he connected to a cross from Matteo Politano to head past a stranded Kevin Trapp. In the process, Osimhen became the first Napoli player to score in both matches of a European Cup/Champions League knockout stage.

Seven minutes before the hour mark, he completed his double – this time, it was Giovanni Di Lorenzo who supplied the assist.

The former Lille man contributed two shots – all on target, and one cross while he was fouled thrice – a stat which proved he was a major threat to Eagles’ backline.

Also, the 24-year-old contributed two dribbles, 13 passes and made 34 touches with a passing accuracy of 69.2 percent.  In addition, he was caught offside twice, dispossessed twice, won three aerials and two successful dribbles to his credit.

Despite his notable attacking output, stats showed the Nigeria added value to Luciano Spalletti’s team defensively as he accounted for one interception, one clearance, and blocked shots.

With nine minutes left on the clock, he was subbed off for Giovanni Simeone to a rousing ovation by the home fans.

“This is a great result for the club, for the team and for our fans,” Spalletti told the club website.

“If in history we hadn’t managed to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League, it means that it is a great result and it is deserved. Now we are enjoying this moment and then we will continue with the same mentality.”

Osimhen would be aiming to add to his tally in the 2022-23 campaign when Napoli visit Torino on March 19 for a league outing in Turin.
