The striker sees no reason why his Serie A outfit cannot compete for European glory this campaign
Victor Osimhen has declared that “nothing is impossible” for his Napoli side as continue their push for Uefa Champions League glory.
Inspired by a brace by the Nigeria international, the Parthenopeans silenced Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 in Naples on Wednesday – to qualify for the quarter-final on a 5-0 aggregate win.
Interestingly, this is the first time in the club’s history that they have reached the last four of the competition.
At this stage, they face the possibility of facing Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, or Benfica for a ticket to the last four.
Regardless, the 24-year-old is bullish while insisting his side’s continental dreams remains a possibility if they continue arresting form.
“It was a fantastic evening that wrote the history of Napoli,” Osimhen was quoted by the Napoli website.
“We played great football and the victory is deserved. The team deserves compliments for how they played this match.
“Now we have to continue like this until the end. We are confident in our strength. We can still make our way in Europe. We have what it takes to reach the top. Nothing is impossible.”
Having found the net against the German elite division outfit, Osimhen becomes the first Napoli player to score in both matches of a European Cup/Champions League knockout stage.
Even at this, the former Wolfsburg and Lille goal machine is not carried away claiming that the club comes first.
“I scored, but it doesn’t matter who scores because we think like a united group that goes on the field to give the maximum for the result and the final goal.”
Meanwhile, Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner admitted that Italians were the superior side and praised his team’s effort.
He told the media: “I have no problem with acknowledging that they were the better team, but I have to compliment my side. We did better than at home.
“I’m very proud of the team; we reached the knockout stages as newcomers in the Champions League. But here we met an opponent that was too big for us.”
The Champions League draw takes place at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday 17 March.
