“It’s a blessing”- Ajayi satisfied with Super Eagles’ win at Guinea-Bissau

Semi Ajayi star filled in for the injured Kevin Akpoguma, and he put up a brilliant performance at center back

Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi is satisfied with Nigeria’s 1-0 win against Guinea Bissau in the reverse fixture of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations clash.

Guinea-Bissau pulled off a shocking result in the first leg defeating Nigeria 1-0. It was a disappointing display that left a sour taste in the mouths of many Nigeria fans.

However, the Super Eagles bounced back in the reverse fixture in Bissau defeating the Djurtus 1-0 thanks to Moses Simon, who scored from the spot.

It was not the most convincing performance, but they still managed to secure the vital three points.

Semi Ajayi was one of the standout performers for Jose Peseiro’s side. The West Brom man was solid at center-back. He blocked everything that came his way and was ruthless in dealing with aerial balls.

Speaking after the game. Ajayi revealed that he was satisfied with the victory.

“It was a very important result in terms of our qualification to the AFCON,” Ajayi told NFF TV.

“It puts us back on top of the group and in pole position. We know we let ourselves down on Friday, and it’s good to be able to put that result right and come away with the win.

The commitment of Nigerian players has often been questioned especially when Nigeria lose games. However, Ajayi has reaffirmed his readiness to don the green and white.

“It’s a blessing anytime I’m called to play for my country, whether it’s one minute or 90 minutes, it’s something I don’t take likely,” Ajayi added.

“I’m always blessed to be given an opportunity to represent my country. So the fact that I was able to start and help the team pick up a valuable win is all that matters.”

The next time the Super Eagles will gather will be in June, when they will play Sierra Leone.

  • Congrats to Ajayi and his team mates but they need to start scoring normal goals not from the spot
