Former Flying Eagles and Leicester city star congratulates Nigeria U20 players for 2023 AFCON progress

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will battle against the Gambia on Monday in an effort to win their eighth AFCON title

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa praised the Flying Eagles’ performance for their success in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Apart from their opening-round defeat to Senegal, the Nigerian under-20 squad have displayed a great performance at the AFCON 2023 competition.

The team led by Ladan Bosso was able to recover from their first setback to upset Egypt, the tournament’s host, and to defeat Mozambique 2-nil at the group stage.

In the quarterfinal at the Suez Canal Stadium, the Nigerian youth squad went on to beat the Ugandan hippos by a score of one to zero.

Ladan Bosso’s team kept onto a slender lead until the final whistle, thanks to an unlucky own goal by Ugandan Ibrahim Juma in the 30th minute.

Following the victory, Ahmed Musa took to his Twitter platform, just like every other Nigerian, to congratulate the Flying Eagles for their victory in the tournament.

It should be remembered that Ahmed Musa played a few games with the Flying Eagles club before joining the Super Eagles.

He played in the Flying Eagles’ first AFCON 2011 encounter against Ghana, albeit he only played for 90 minutes the whole competition.

That same year, he featured in the 18th FIFA U-20 World Cup hosted by Colombia in 2011, where he scored three goals and contributed two assists in the tournament.
