Five Super Eagles to count on against Guinea Bissau

The Super Eagles’ AFCON qualifying match against Guinea-Bissau is scheduled on March 24 at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will meet their West African neighbours, Guinea-Bissau, in a doubleheader for Africa Cup of Nations qualifications.

The Super Eagles coach, José Peseiro, announced his 23-man roster prior to the match in preparation of the matchup with the African Wild Dogs.

It is plausible to assume that some of the Super Eagles stars that the Portuguese tactician invited may not have made the cut, but certain Nigerian players who have been blazing strongly in their respective divisions may have.

Due to their recent performance, Soccernet will spotlight some players that can be counted on when they square off against Guinea-Bissau.

Kingsley Aniogboso

One of the outstanding performers for Ladan Bosso’s side in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations was the Flying Eagles goalkeeper. His skill may be enhanced at the senior level based on the quantity of saves and clean sheets. With the lacklustre history of goalkeepers we’ve had in recent years, a fresh hand should be attempted, and he is the only one who has recently shown himself worthy. But, he may struggle to transition to the new environment and may have a rocky start.

Calvin Bassey

When the Ajax FC player switched to the Eredivisie league, he was first chastised in Amsterdam. But, when John Heitinga teamed him with Jurrien Timber at the Center Defence, his most recent performance has been outstanding. The former Ajax star is anticipated to continue his recent success on the international stage, and he seems to be the Super Eagles’ defense’s best bet.

Alex Iwobi

The Nigerian international has displayed an excellent performance in Everton’s fight to stay out of English Premier League relegation zone. He has not scored many goals, but he has given the Blues the most assists so far. Iwobi will undoubtedly continue his fantastic performance when Nigeria takes against Guinea-Bissau.

Kelechi Iheanacho

The former Manchester City attacker has always been a vital member of the Super Eagles team and will likely have a big impact on how the side performs against its opponents from West Africa. Even though spending little time in the starting lineup for Brendan Rodgers’ team, Iheanacho was nevertheless able to provide 6 goals and 4 assists for the Foxes across all competitions.

His strong play, which has brought his total number of FA Cup goals scored from 24 appearances to 18, will be enough to propel him in their doubleheader match against Guinea-Bissau.

Victor Osimhen

The Super Eagles player, who has been scoring goals for Napoli, is presently the hottest striker in Africa. In addition to this, the Nigerian has received numerous accolades, elevating him to a prominent position even on the transfer market. He now leads the Serie A scoring chart with 21 goals. Therefore, it would be expected that he would maintain his form at the national level and lead the squad to victory.
