The youngster just arrived in Belgium two months ago, but he is already making waves
Gent coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck has praised Nigerian striker Gift Orban for his brilliance since he joined the club.
Orban became the third most expensive sale by Norwegian club Stabaek after his €3.5million transfer to Jupiler League club Gent in January.
He showed promise at his former club, scoring 16 goals in 22 OBOS Ligaen games, but many did not expect him to exactly hit the ground running especially as he was moving from a lower division to a Belgian top-flight club.
However, the 20-year-old has proven his mettle. Barely two months into his stay, Orban is already building a big reputation. He has scored nine goals in eight appearances.
Four of his goals came on Sunday when Gent destroyed Waregem 6-2. The 20-year-old hitman scored four beautiful goals to power his side to victory.
Gent boss Hein Vanhaezebrouck has been impressed by what he has seen from Orban so far, and he feels the Nigerian is worth every penny that was paid for his services.
“Last season he made 22 appearances across all competitions in Norway,” Vanhaezebrouck said per Voetbal Nieuws.
“If you let him start the season, he is a guarantee of 20, 25 goals across all competitions,”
“Finishing is fun for him. Right, left, he doesn’t care.”
Since his move to Gent, Orban has the best goal-game ratio in Europes’s top ten leagues. If he is consistent with his performances, he could win himself a Super Eagles call-up very soon.
