Euro wrap: Orban, Oshoala, Ibrahim excel; Bassey, Otubanjo impress; Plumptre embarrassed

Several Nigerian players were in action for their respective European clubs, and Soccernet.ng brings the top stories from their involvement.

England

Alex Iwobi and Emmanuel Dennis saw action as Nottingham Forest held Everton to a 2-2 draw at the City Ground.

In the Women’s Super League, Super Eagles defender Ashleigh Plumptre endured a day to forget as her Leicester City were humiliated 5-0 in front of their own fans by league leaders Manchester United.

Spain

In the Spanish Primera Division Femenina, Asisat Oshoala was again among the goals as Barcelona crushed Villarreal 5-0 at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.

It was the ninth consecutive match that Oshoala would find the net. The former Arsenal star now has 19 goals in 19 league games and is one goal shy of her career-high of 20 in a single season.

Over at the Estadio Jesús Navas, Toni Payne and Sevilla suffered their second home defeat of the league season as Levante carved out a 4-2 win to make away with all three points at stake.

Germany

Former Union Berlin star Anthony Ujah bagged a dramatic second-half equaliser to help Eintracht Braunschweig pull off a 3 – 3 draw after initially going three-nil down at home to Arminia Bielefeld in the 2.Bundesliga.

Netherlands

Ajax coach Johnny Heitinga returned Calvin Bassey to his starting eleven and he was repaid with a solid defensive display as the Amsterdammers secured a 1-0 win over visiting NEC.

Armenia

Yusuf Otubanjo scored his eighth league goal of the campaign as Pyunik made it five wins in a row in all competitions with a 3-1 triumph over Van.

Belgium

Youngster Gift Orban struck one of the best goals of the weekend to lead KAA Gent to a narrow 1-0 victory over Anderlecht in the First Division A.

Victor Boniface was introduced in the second half as Union Saint-Gilloise returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win at home to Eupen.

Croatia

21-year-old Aliyu Ibrahim bagged a brace to power Lokomotiva Zagreb to a thrilling 4-3 win at Chidozie Awaziem’s Hajduk Split.

Cyprus

Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho impressed on his return to first-team duties to help Omonia Nicosia claim a late 2-1 win at Rasheed Yusuf’s Karmiotissa.

Czech Republic

Quadri Adediran had the last laugh over compatriots Peter Olayinka and Igoh Ogbu as his goal inspired České Budějovice to a 1 – 0 home win over league leaders Slavia Prague.

Portugal

Kaduna-born defender, Kelechi John Christian got the only goal of the encounter to help Belenenses soar past Feirense in the Segunda Lig.

Ukraine

Viv Solomon-Otabor laid on the assist to the winning goal to lift Rukh Vynnyky to a hard-fought 2-1 win at FK Metalist.
