Coach Peseiro congratulates Flying Eagles for securing U20 World Cup ticket

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria beat the Hippos of Uganda by a score of 1 to reach the 2023 AFCON tournament’s semifinals.

The Super Eagles’ head coach, Jose Peseiro, saluted the performance of the Nigerian under-20 squad at the 2023 African Cup of Nations tournament.

Ladan Bosso’s team overcame the heartbreak of losing to Senegal in their initial group-stage encounter by recovering to claim their subsequent encounters and go on to the Semi-Finals.

The Nigerian squad qualified for the U-20 World Cup by beating the Ugandan Hippos in the quarterfinals. Any team that makes it to the U-20 AFCON semi-finals automatically qualifies to play on the Global stage.

Peseiro, who previously journeyed to Egypt to witness the Flying Eagles play, praised the players for their tenacious effort and recent win against the East Africans in the quarterfinal to progress to the Semifinal.

The 62-year-old conveyed his admiration through his social media channel.

“Congratulations to our Flying Eagles, who have guaranteed a spot in U20 World Cup in May, as well as being through to the semi-finals of the U20 AFCON,” he wrote.

Before their AFCON qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau, the Super Eagles are expected to train with four Under-20 players who were reportedly selected by the former Sporting CP manager.

Several of the finest U20 talents are anticipated to be on Peseiro’s roster when he announces it for the match against the West African Atlantic coast side at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
