Champions League: Oshoala’s brilliance sends Barcelona to fifth consecutive semifinal

The Super Falcons star has a super game, and she is on course to make history with her Spanish side

Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala bagged a goal and an assist in Barcelona Femeni’s 5-1 demolition of AS Roma Women in the quarterfinal of the Women’s Champions League.

Barcelona grabbed a 1-0 advantage from the first leg in Rome last week thanks to a goal from Salma Paralluelo. Roma stopped Oshoala from finding the next in the first leg, but in the second leg at Camp Nou, they were run ragged. It was dominated by Barcelona, as they cut into the Roma backline like a hot knife through butter.

The Spanish queens opened the scoring in the 11th minute thanks to a goal from Fridolina Rolfo. She rifled the ball home from close range after a knockdown by Oshoala.

The Super Falcons star could have scored two minutes later after she was set free by a visionary pass. However, her shot was blocked.

Nonetheless, Mapi Leon and Rolfo scored again before halftime to give the Catalan giants a healthy 3-0 lead.

Barcelona started the second half with a lot of intensity, and it took seconds for them to get rewarded. Oshoala showed her speed and intelligence, running into the Roma area and tapping in a cross from Aitana Bonmati.

Patricia Guijarro scored the final goal for Barcelona in the 58th minute. But Annamaria Serturini pulled one back for the visitors.

It ended 5-1 at Camp Nou and 6-1 on aggregate. They will play the winner of Lyon vs Chelsea in the semifinal.
