Osimhen has been a force at Napoli this season, and he just keeps pushing the team to greater heights
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored twice for Napoli in their 3-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, as they sealed qualification to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.
This season has been incredible for the Partenopeans. It has seen them break boundaries and reached heights they have never experienced.
Against Eintracht Frankfurt in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie, Napoli had the chance to make history.
They already did half of the job in the first leg in Frankfurt, and they just needed to hang on in the second leg to secure their spot in the next round.
Napoli had their feet on the pedal from the blast of the whistle. They were aggressive, and Osimhen was in the action, putting himself about and charging down on opponents.
The visitors proved stubborn in the opening minutes, and it looked like they were going to take the goalless draw into halftime, but Osimhen had other ideas. The 24-year-old Nigerian scored a beautiful header from close range to make it 14.
Osimhen started the second half on fire and he got his reward eight minutes in. He showed great anticipation in the box to turn in Giovanni Lorenzo’s cross in the 53rd minute.
Ten minutes later, Napoli struck again through Piotr Zielinski from the penalty spot to make it 3-0.
Osimhen put in a proper shift on both ends. He also had a clearance and an interception.
The 3-0 victory ensured that they won the tie 5-0 in aggregate. Osimhen became the first Nigerian player to score in a Champions League knockout game twice. According to Opta, Napoli will play in the quarterfinals of the Champions League for the first time in history.
