AFCON 2023: Nigeria’s Flying Eagles to slug it out with Young Scorpions for place in final

The Flying Eagles are looking to claim an eighth African crown, but they have two more hurdles to cross

Nigeria will square off against Gambia in the semifinal of the 2023 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria’s Under-20 team defeated Uganda 1-0 on Thursday in the second quarterfinal fixture of the ongoing U-20 AFCON in Egypt.

A first-half own goal from Ugandan midfielder Ibrahim Juma sealed the victory for Ladan Bosso’s team.

The Flying Eagles now know their opponents for the semifinal. They will square off against Gambia. The Young Scorpions thrashed South Sudan 5-0 on Friday– the highest scoreline in the competition. A hattrick from Adama Bojang, Moses Jarju, and Mahmudu Bajo sealed the victory for the West Africans.

The Flying Eagles will be up against a Gambian team that is yet to concede in the tournament. They are also the highest-scoring team in the competition with nine goals in four games.

Nonetheless, the Ladan Bosso’s lads are no pushovers, and they would look to claim the win when both teams meet in Cairo on Monday.
