2023 AFCON: Victory against Guinea-Bissau will seal ticket for Super Eagles

The Super Eagles face the Djurtus in a double-header, and winning both legs will see their place at the AFCON

Nigeria’s Super Eagles need only six points from their remaining four games to seal their ticket to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

This comes after Sierra Leone drew 2-2 at home to Sao Tome and Principe, the same team the Super Eagles thrashed 10-0 at the Stade Adrar in Agadir in June last year.

Luis Leal opened the scoring for Sao Tome and Principe in the 43rd minute, but Mustapha Bundu drew level for the home side in the second half. But Sierra Leone were punished again in the 59th minute.

However, Abu Komeh equalized in the 68th minute to ensure they ran out with a 2-2 draw.

The result ensures that Sierra Leone have two points after three games while Sao Tome and Principe have just one point.

Nigeria top the group with six points, and if they win their next two games against Guinea-Bissau, then none of their opponents will be able to meet up with them as they would be on 12 points.

The Super Eagles play Guinea-Bissau at the Abuja National Stadium in the first leg on Friday. Then they will play the reverse fixture next Monday.
