2023 Afcon Qualifiers: Osimhen and Lookman in as Peseiro names Nigeria squad for Guinea Bissau

The Super Eagles squad for the Djurtus has been released with the Italy based forwards making the cut

Nigeria coach Jose Peseiro has released his squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea Bissau with Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Paul Onuachu among those selected.

Having won their first two matches, the Super Eagles lead Group A. They will be hoping to continue their perfect start against the West Africans inside Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on March 24. Three days later, the reverse fixture will hold at the Estadio 24 de Setembro in Bissau.

Peseiro picked a strong team for the Djurtus with the trio making the cut alongside Everton’s Alex Iwobi, and Leicester City’s duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi.

Others are Villarreal forward Samuel Chukwueze and Southampton midfielder Joe Aribo. However, Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi was conspicuously missing alongside goalkeeper Maduka Okoye.

Nigeria U20’s Daniel Bameyi and  Chijioke Aniagboso have been handed a maiden call-up to the three-time African champions as well as Rivers United goalkeeper Victor Sochima.

Egyptian referee Mahmoud Elbana will be in the centre, with his compatriots Youssef Elbosaty, Sami Halhal and Ahmed El-Ghandour to function as assistant referee 1, assistant referee 2 and fourth official respectively. Prosper Harrison Addo from Ghana will be the match commissioner and his compatriot Kotey Alexander will be the referee assessor.

  • What is Ahmed Musa and Joe Aribo doing in team in the place of Etebo and Olayinka. Aribo has been the bench ever since. Musa has never played more than 10 minutes in any game.
Please l believe players should be invited on merit, their present form.
    My humble submission.
    Thanks.

  • Goal Keeper:
Replace that under 20 goal Keeper with Adeleye

    Defenders:
Omeruo, Ajayi, Bameyi should have been replaced by Ebuehi, Ogbu and Obileye

    Mid-fielders:
Ndidi, Aribo and Onyeka should have been replaced by Etebo, Nwobodo and Nwakali

    Attacker:
Onauchu and Musa should be replaced immediately for Gift Orban and Saviour Godwin

Must keep recycling old and tired legs?

  • I am absolutely surprised that Gift Orban is not invited, after Osimrn and Lukmm, he is the next hottest Nigerian player broad

      • Wtf is one match.
Gift Orban has 12 goals in 9 matches for Gent since he arrived. So stop talking trash if u don't know football. Go and watch Telitubbies

  • My sentiments exactly, why is Ahmed Musa still invited to the team? He played his part years ago, he did well, but now is time for the young ones. What is wrong with the technical team? How can you sincerely say Musa should be on the team. This has to be a political issue.

  • This coach is an inexperience coach,he didn't invite players base on form,he omitted orban bringing Ahmed Musa and Paul onuchi who have not scored a goal since his move to premier league.

  • one of the reason why we don't go far in competition are all this things, imagine chuba akpom omitted from this list, he's the top scorer in the championship this season, gift orban is another good prospect, I thought it will be different in this new coach reign but I just discovered he's just taking us aback, why on earth will he just take four midfielders with him, out of the four is even iwobi that has been consistent, the rest are bench warmers or don't even play at all

  • Nigeria never surprises me when squads are called up and that's a terrible thing. what about the Fulham defender, what about our kids that are pushing to play for Ireland, what about our crystal palace boys, what about Orban, what is musa doing there. See if they keep calling musa, abeg Jay Jay wear kit and come and play.

  • Musa
    Where is the Fulham defender
    What Is Aribo doing here?
    Where is Gift orban
    Where is the shame
