The performance of Victor Osimhen has attracted a lot of new fans as well as the interest of numerous European teams.
Super Falcons forward, Asisat Oshoala, has compared Nigerian goal poacher, Victor Osimhen, to Spanish legend Rafael Moreno Aranzadi, popularly known as “Pichichi.”
The 24-year-old striker has been making headlines for his goal-scoring spree, which has been crucial in Napoli’s battle for the Scudetto.
Oshoala compared this feat to Pichichi, an Atlético Bilbao legend, who played as a striker and scored 83 goals in 89 games for his one and only club.
Pichichi, who was distinguished by the white cloth wrapped to his head, went on to appear in five more domestic cup finals, winning four of them while scoring three goals as Athletic defeated RCD Espaol 5-0.
Despite considerable fan criticism of his career and terrible death from Typhus, he was hailed as a hero thereafter for the goals he scored for the one club he ever played for.
The Pichichi Trophy was officially unveiled in his honour today by the Spanish sports publication Diario Marca. Top scorers in La Liga and Segunda División received it each year.
The Super Falcons striker, meanwhile, was presented with the Pichichi Trophy for leading scorer in the 2021/22 Spain Primera División Women League.
With 19 goals in 20 Serie A league games, Osimhen has solidified his place in the hearts of Napoli supporters and even Nigerian sports fans throughout the world.
The in-form Nigerian striker posted on his social media page to share his happiness after scoring recently during Napoli’s visit to the Stadio Carlo Castellani to play Empoli, which resulted in a 2-nil triumph.
“We Move From Strength To Strength💯💪🏽💙🤍 #forzanapolisempre ⚽️” he composed.
The four-time CAF Women Footballer of the Year winner left a simple “Pichichi” remark on his post.
After scoring in his team’s triumph against The Blues on Saturday, the Super Eagles’ talisman became the second-youngest player to score in eight straight Series A games.
