Revelation Cup: Colombia dump Ten Hag-styled Super Falcons into worst run in 20 years

The Nigerian ladies were looking to get back to winning ways against the Coffee Growers but could only sink to a new low even with the World Cup around the corner

Nigeria, on Saturday, sunk to a new low in football after the Super Falcons fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Colombia on matchday two of the Revelation Cup in Mexico.

Only three days ago, the nine-time African champions suffered a similar narrow loss to hosts Mexico in their first match of the four-nation invitational tournament.

All hopes of making amends against Colombia were, however, dashed as a fifth-minute strike from Linda Caicedo handed the South Americans the victory in their first-ever clash against Nigeria.

It has been a disappointing outing for the Randy Waldrum-tutored Nigerian ladies in Mexico, having lost their first two games at the Revelation Cup and are no longer in the running to lift the title.

The signs are not looking good for head coach Waldrum who has now led the Falcons to seven consecutive defeats in all competitions – the team’s worst run since the turn of the millennium.

The self-proclaimed Manchester United fan had boasted before the match against Colombia that he was working to implement some of Erik Ten Hag’s strategies at Old Trafford into the Falcons.

But there was little evidence inside the Estadio Leon to show that the Super Falcons are ready to make any meaningful impact at the 2023 FIFA World Cup later this year in New Zealand and Australia.

Nigeria produced very little quality in attack, while goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie was the best player in defence.

The Super Falcons will play their last match at the Revelation Cup against Costa Rica on Wednesday before departing Mexico.

At the World Cup, Nigeria have been grouped alongside hosts Australia, Canada, and the Republic of Ireland.

  • Hmmmmmmm! ha ha hu ha l dey laugh! No comment on college coach turned a national team coach.
Next online is the world cup. We are watching.

  • I have been calling for the sack of that coach but nothing is done. it seems to me the man was hired to destroy the Super Falcons. We shall be humiliated at the world cup if that man remains the coach.

  • This is so devastating and disappointing! Wauldrum is turning our once incredible falcons to a degraded team! It hurts alot to watch falcons play so shabbily! I even wondered why they have to travel that long way just to disgrace our beloved country. The problem started immediately Ralph was appointed the coach, but we failed to see this! Our NFF is so negligent to this and it's so pathetic! I saw the matches against mexico and Columbia and I was shocked beyond words! How can the Super Falcons play like that! Even the U17 and U20 were better off! THE SOLUTION IS CLEAR! SACK WALDRUM AND HIS ANNOYING COACHING CREW! APPOINT A NEW COACH, OR EVEN THE PREVIOUS COACH! SAME TO THE SUPER EAGLES - BRING BACK ROHR!
