Revealed: Why Super Eagles star Ola Aina will miss Torino’s crucial Serie A clash against Juventus

The Nigerian international has made 13 league appearances in the Italian top flight this term despite missing a large chunk of the campaign due to injury

Super Eagles defender Ola Aina has been ruled out of Torino’s squad that will trade tackles with Juventus in the eagerly-anticipated Turin derby next Tuesday.

Torino will aim for their first victory in nearly eight years over their city rivals when they make the short trip to the Allianz Stadium to honour their matchday 24 fixture.

The Maroons have not celebrated a win over Juventus since goals from Matteo Darmian and Fabio Quagliarella powered them to a 2-1 victory over the Old Ladies in April 2015.

However, the club must achieve that feat without their Nigerian import, Ola Aina.

The Super Eagles defender is suspended for the match after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the campaign in Torino’s 2-2 draw with Cremonese on Monday night.

Aina was booked in the 66th minute of the clash for a reckless challenge, and he was replaced by Ivorian defender Wilfried Songo a minute later.

The 26-year-old’s previous bookings were against Atalanta, Cremonese (in August), and Udinese – home and away.

Despite injury keeping him out of action for three months between late October and January, Aina remains one of Torino’s key full-backs.

The former Chelsea star has played in 13 league games this season, scoring once and providing another assist.

Aina will be expected back in the Torino squad for their Serie A meeting with Bologna at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino on March 6.
