Lookman beats Osimhen, Dybala, and Zaccagni to rack up AIC’s January player of the month award

The Nigerian striker has excelled well for Gian Piero Gasperini’s team this season, scoring 12 goals and dishing out three assists in 19 league matches.

Nigerian international, Ademola Lookman, has been named Associazione Italiana Calciatori (AIC) January player of the month.

The Super Eagles forward was selected by AIC, the Italian Footballers’ Association, based on his January performance for his club, Atalanta.

The Nigerian striker started off the bench as the Oribici lost 1-0 to Inter Milan in the Coppa Italia match.

However, it is accurate to note that the Black and Blues were playing without their top player throughout the first half of the game, which contributed to their defeat by the Nerazzurri during their visit to the San Siro stadium.

The Nigerian striker has five goals and two assists in the Goddess’ last three league games, making him one of Gian Piero Gasperini’s new system’s key cogs.

Players that excelled at their highest levels in January were Paulo Dybala (2 goals and 3 assists), Victor Osimhen (5 goals and 1 assist), and Mattia Zaccagni (3 goals and 1 assist).

However, the former Leicester City star outperformed these competitors, including his own countryman, by scoring goals, which led to his being named January’s Player of the Month.

The attacker, though, trails his countryman Osimhen by two goals in the Serie A scoring standings with 12 goals.
