“He made a picture”– Former Napoli striker salutes Osimhen’s ‘Pele-like’ goal

The outstanding goal scored by Victor Osimhen was named Serie A goal of the month for January.

Former Napoli striker, Antoni Careca, doffs his hat to Victor Osimhen’s goal for Napoli against AS Roma.

Soccernet.ng earlier reported that the brilliant goal scored by the striker was announced Serie A goal of the month for January.

The Georgian forward, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, received a brilliant pass from Mario Rui on the left before it was crossed to Osimhen, who pulled it down on his chest and fired it wide past Rui Patricio.

As the Parthenopeans welcomed AS Roma to the Diego Maradona Stadium, the Nigerian forward scored his 14th goal of the campaign for Napoli.

The 62-year-old spoke into the Kiss Kiss Napoli microphones.

“Osimhen? He made a picture, a beautiful Pelé-like goal. Victor, Simeone, Lobotka, author of a great match, Kvara and the whole team churned out an incredible performance.” he remarked as quoted by TuttoNapoli.

Roma tied the score in the second half, but Napoli produced a dramatic late victory to give them 53 points after 20 games.

In his post-victory reflections, the Brazilian praised the two goals scored by Neapolitan players and said that the challenges Jose Mourinho’s team encountered were anticipated.

“On the goal, it was a beautiful technical gesture by Victor, then Simeone sealed the double advantage. However, Roma is a good team with an experienced coach like Mourinho, the difficulties encountered by Napoli are natural. It mattered to win, I don’t know what the starting team is, but the players on the bench are also making a difference.” he said further.

Prior to the match against Roma, the Super Eagles’ star player had the highest per-90 average for non-penalty goals (0.93), shots (4.5), non-penalty xG (0.66), and touches in the opponent’s box (8.3).
