Super Eagles forward to have scan on ankle injury after picking a knock in Everton’s defeat to Manchester United

Everton manager Frank Lampard has provided an update on Alex Iwobi’s injury status after a knock at Old Trafford.

Everton manager Frank Lampard has stated that Super Eagles striker Alex Iwobi will undergo an ankle scan after experiencing suspected ligament damage.

In the second half of the match against Manchester United, the Super Eagles attacker was on the move for a counterattack when he was hauled down by the Dutchman, Tyrell Malacia, with a hard challenge.

The Nigerian international, who seems to be the Blues’ saving grace in their relegation struggle, seemed to twist his ankle in the game and was substituted out.

The attacker was stretchered off the pitch and replaced by Abdoulaye Doucoure. After his departure, the 2016 FA Cup winner scored two goals, one on an own goal by Everton defender Conor Coady and the other from the penalty spot by Rashford.

Following the 3-1 loss, the English manager provided an update on Iwobi’s health.

“We hope it’s not too serious,” he remarked, as reported by The Athletic.

Lampard, on the other hand, is unable to forecast how long Iwobi will be out, but has confirmed that the 26-year-old will have a scan to determine the extent of the injury.

“It looks like an ankle ligament injury. He will have a scan tomorrow to confirm,” he added.

The Toffees seemed to have taken a significant blow, given their next four fixtures in their fight to escape the relegation zone feature West Ham United, Liverpool, and league leaders Arsenal.
