The Super Eagles-eligible forward have discovered his scoring touch under a fresh direction.
Middlesbrough forward, Chuba Akpom has been named Sky bet player of the month for December.
This came after his stellar performance for Boro, in which he scored 13 goals and recorded one assist in 20 appearances in the domestic league.
However, the 27-year-old scored four goals in December, including a fantastic hat trick against Kolo Toure’s Wigan Athletic. The British-Nigerian is also leading the scorer board of the Sky Bet Championship, with 13 goals.
Akpom, who was named the PFA player of the month in November, has been nominated for the same award in December.
The award saw Akpom beat the likes of Iliman Ndiaye (Sheffield United), Alex Palmer (West Bromwich Albion) and Joel Piroe (Swansea City) to claim it.
His manager, Michael Carrick, had nothing but praise for him after his nomination.
“I’m delighted for Chuba. He’s been playing really well, and I’m sure he’d be the first to acknowledge the role of his team-mates in laying the foundations. Individual awards are always good because overall, it means you are doing well as a team.” he said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
The Super Eagles eligible said, “I’m grateful and humbled, and it’s amazing to receive the award. I just want to be able to carry on my form and help the team reach our targets.
“We’re going well and it’s been a good season so far. But we’ve a lot of football still to play.”
Although Akpom has pledged to play for the Super Eagles since 2019, he is one of the players that might provide manager Jose Peseiro trouble when it comes to team selection when international duty kicks in.
