Poor performance: Flying Eagles coach sends 12 players away from camp

The former African champions are preparing for the continental championship to be hosted in Egypt

Flying Eagles boss Ladan Bosso has pruned down the number of players in the team’s Abuja camp where preparations are in earnest for the next edition of the U20 Africa Cup of Nations to be played in Egypt.

It would be recalled that the team returned to camp last week after the new year break with 35 players on the roll call.

But coach Bosso has sent 12 of the players home with reports suggesting the decision was taken because of the poor performance of the affected players.

However, coach Bosso has welcomed new arrivals into the team.

Norwich City duo of goalkeeper David Aziaya and Kenny Coker have landed in the team camp and have started training with the Flying Eagles.

18-year-old Aziaya has overcome a slight knock to begin training with the national u20 team.

Young forward Coker will also hopes to be a part of the Nigerian squad to Egypt.

Born in the United and also eligible to play for England, Coker can be provisionally cap-tied to Nigeria when he featured for the Flying Eagles.

The arrivals and departures will continue for the Flying Eagles players until coach Bosso submits his final 21-man squad roster for the 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

It has been widely reported that the list is expected to be released on January 25.
Coach Bosso will lead the Flying eagles on a training tour of Morocco later this month.

Nigeria, seven-time African champions of the U20 Afcon, will be gunning for their eighth title when the tournament kicks off in Egypt on February 19 and run through March 11.

Together with hosts Egypt, Mozambique and Senegal, the Flying Eagles have been drawn into Group A.
