Awoniyi was the star of the night when Nottingham Forest defeated Southampton, but he could not complete the game
Nottingham Forest coach Steve Cooper has stated that Taiwo Awoniyi’s forced exit in their 1-0 win over Southampton was likely due to fatigue rather than injury.
Awoniyi put up a Man Of The Match performance for Nottingham Forest when they traveled to Southampton. The Super Eagles striker scored the winning goal for the Tricky Trees, and he put in a great shift on either end of the pitch.
Unfortunately, the 25-year-old striker was subbed off in the 71st minute because he could not continue.
Nottingham Forest have some of their first-team players out. Moussa Niakhate, Omar Richards, Giulian Biancone, Cheikhou Kouyate, and Jesse Lingard are all out injured. And it would be a disaster if Awoniyi, who just hits form has to visit the treatment table.
However, Cooper has revealed that Awoniyi’s problem could just be fatigue.
“It’s still early to tell if Awoniyi is injured. We’re still assessing. The players are in a bit later today,” Cooper said as per Nottingham Post.
“A couple of the lads walked off yesterday(against Southampton) with some fatigue.
“We’ll have to look at Taiwo, for example, and see how he is. It’s too soon to see if there is anything worse than fatigue.
The Tricky Trees take on Blackpool next in the FA Cup on Saturday. And Coach Cooper would hope that Awoniyi is fit for the clash.
