“I like this player” – Ex-Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr names two Super Eagles strikers who impress him this season

The former Girondins Bordeaux manager was the boss of the Nigeria national team for five years until he was dismissed in December 2021

Former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has named Lorient’s Terem Moffi and Girondins Bordeaux’s Josh Maja as the two Nigerian strikers who have impressed him the most this season.

Several Super Eagles forwards are enjoying a great time in front of the goal this term.

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is the leading goalscorer in Serie A, followed closely by compatriot and Atalanta ace Ademola Lookman. Genk’s Paul Onuachu has no equal in the Belgian Pro League.

But it is Terem Moffi and Josh Maja whose exploits have caught the attention of Gernot Rohr.

Moffi has been nearly unstoppable in Ligue 1 having notched an incredible 12 goals in 18 games for Lorient. Only PSG’s Kylian Mbappe has more goals than the 23-year-old striker.

And Gernot Rohr is full of applause for the former Kortrijk striker, who has become one of the most in-demand in Europe.

What has been said?

“Terem Moffi is a powerful centre forward, a good goal-scorer,” Rohr told the Nation.

“He’s also good with the head, good protection of the ball and mentally, very strong which makes him to be a complete striker; I like this player.

“Presently, he (Moffi) is one of the best players at Lorient.”

While Moffi is outsmarting and outwitting defenders in the French top flight, his compatriot Maja is taking no prisoners in Ligue 2.

The former Sunderland striker is the leading goalscorer in the division with 11 goals. With three other assists, Maja accounts for nearly half of the 25 goals that Bordeaux has managed in the league this term.

And Rohr admits the 24-year-old is one of the main reasons why Bordeaux is flying high in search of promotion to Ligue 1.

Rohr adds: “Maja is doing well this season after coming back to Bordeaux from loans (Fulham and Stoke City) in England and Bordeaux is now second in the league presently.

“I hope Maja who has scored 11 goals (though with six penalties ) can bring back Bordeaux to the first division (Ligue 1) again.”

Rohr handed Moffi and Maja their Super Eagles debut while he was still in charge of the three-time African champions.
