Huddersfield Town, which is at the bottom of the EFL championship rankings, has added the player who is eligible to play in Nigeria to their team in an effort to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the year.
EFL Championship club, Huddersfield town, have announced the signing of Nigeria-eligible forward, Joseph Hungbo from Watford FC.
The player, born to a Nigerian father and a Togolese mother, will be with the John Smith’s stadium for the remainder of the 2022–23 Sky Bet Championship season, the club confirmed.
With his fourth loan in his career—all of which have been in England—Hungbo will join to Huddersfield Town on loan.
The winger moved to Watford from Crystal Palace in July 2019. Prior to that, he spent considerable time at Ross County, where he scored six goals in 33 games and won awards for both the club’s and the league’s Goal of the Season, as well as Young Player of the Year and Players’ Young Player of the Year.
Nine games have been played by the 23-year-old for the Hornets this season, although he has not been a starter since Slaven Bilic was named manager in September.
Head of Football Operations, Leigh Bromby, comments on the signing of the forward by saying that he would incite competitiveness in their attack and pose a serious danger to their rivals.
“We’re really excited to bring Joseph into the group and increase the competition for places within our forward line. He’s a dynamic winger who will bring more pace to the team, giving us the option to progress forward in a direct manner.
“He had a really impressive time on loan in the Scottish Premiership last season and has done enough to be involved with the Watford first team this year, so we definitely think he’s ready to come in and contribute at this level straight away.” he said, via a statement on Huddersfield club website.
The Nigerian-eligible player, who has yet to hear from Nigerian Football, is being attentively monitored since he has yet to debut for the Three Lions.
It would not be a surprise if Hungbo takes the same decision when the time comes, much as players like Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman, and a host of others who have chosen to play for the Nigerian side instead of the English national team.
However, Hungbo is anticipated to make his Terriers debut when Huddersfield visits Bloomfield Road for their next game.
