Bournemouth looking to use owner’s connection to land 12-goal Super Eagles striker – report

The Cherries urgently need help and inspiration from somewhere if they are to avoid an instant return to the Championship

English Premier League campaigners AFC Bournemouth have joined the race for FC Lorient striker Terem Moffi as the Nigerian forward looks increasingly on his way to England this January.

Bournemouth are in desperate need of reinforcement on the market even as there are only two weeks left in the winter transfer window.

The newly promoted Cherries have endured a terrible return to the English top flight with the defence and attack looking in poor condition.

Gary O’Neil’s men boast the worst defence in the league while only five teams have scored fewer goals than the Boscombe-based Reds.

Strikers Dominic Solanke, Kieffer Moore, and Jaidon Anthony have managed just nine goals in between them with the season almost at the halfway point.

Time for Moffi magic?

The search is on for a proven goalscorer and according to the Daily Mirror, Bournemouth have joined West Ham and Southampton in the pursuit of Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi.

Moffi has been tearing defences apart in the French Ligue 1 and the 23-year-old’s 12 goals are only bettered by France and PSG star Kylian Mbappe.

The Nigerian international may not necessarily jump at the offer to join a struggling Bournemouth that have lost eight of their last nine league games and are top candidates for the drop.

But the Cherries could look to their owner Bill Foley to help get the deal over the line. Foley, who is the Bournemouth Chairman, also has a stake in FC Lorient.

Bournemouth and Lorient have already put their connection to proper use this month as they have agreed to a £20 million fee for winger Dango Ouattara from the French club.

But getting a deal done for Moffi could be trickier with several other English clubs interested in the former Kortrijk lad.

Lorient have recently rejected bids from West Ham and Southampton for Moffi, the Hammers offering £20 million and the Saints putting £15 million on the table.

Ligue 1 side OGC Nice are also believed to have agreed to personal terms with the Nigerian star.
