Uruguayan striker, Luis Suarez has revealed that Ghana’s 2010 World Cup defeat was not his fault.
Uruguayan forward, Luis Suarez, claims Ghanaians’ early 2010 World Cup exit in South Africa was never his fault and would not apologize for it.
Remember that the Ghanaians lost out in the 2010 World Cup, thus it was a day to forget.
The former Barcelona player stopped the Black Stars of Ghana from progressing to the last 4 of the tournament after the dying seconds of the event.
If the goal had not been intercepted, the West African side would have established a historic milestone by being the first African team to go to the World Cup semifinals.
The then-Ghana attacker, Asamoah Gyan, missed the subsequent penalty when he shot the ball on the crossbar after the Uruguayan talisman handballed the goal on the line and was sent off.
However, Ghana was drawn to the same Group H for the 2022 World Cup, offering a chance for the country to exact retribution for their 2010 elimination.
Meanwhile, ex-Ghana star, Ibrahim Ayew, seeks revenge ahead of the World Cup tie against Uruguay while speaking to the Athletic.
“I thought we had won. I was a substitute, warming up behind that goal, and I ran onto the pitch to celebrate because I was sure the ball had crossed the line.
“I thought we had done it, the first African team ever to reach the semifinal of the World Cup,” he said.
“The whole of Ghana hates him [Luis Suarez], and the whole of Africa hates him. Oh yes, we hate him. And we want revenge.” he said.
Speaking ahead of the South American’s clash with the Black Stars, the 35-year-old revealed that he would not apologize for what he did 12 years ago.
“I will not apologize. I did not miss the penalty. The Ghanaian player did”
