U-20 AFCON: Flying Eagles face Egypt and Senegal in tough draw

Senegal, who placed second in 2019, Egypt, the AFCON 2023 host, and Mozambique, which is participating in the competition for the second time, are the teams who will be competing with Nigeria.

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn against the host of the Under-20 African Cup of Nations, Egypt, as well as Senegal.

Given that they were drawn into the same group as the host team at the biannual competition, the Flying Eagles will have their work cut out for them.

Following the draw held in Cairo on Friday, Nigeria has been drawn in a challenging group that includes the hosts and four-time winners Egypt for the 2023 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.

The Flying Eagles are in Group A with Egypt, who won in 1981, 1991, 2003, and 2013, as well as Senegal, who finished second in 2015, 2017, and 2019, and Mozambique, who are making their second appearance in the competition.

However, Nigeria, is competing in the tournament for the 12th time and has won seven titles. Although, the Flying Eagles missed the 2021 event.

The event’s hosts will also be under pressure to perform at home in their 12th tournament, and after not competing since 2017, they will be eager to win back the title they last held.

The 17th AFCON 2023 will take place from February 19–March 12, 2023.
