Ndidi captains as Liverpool defeats Leicester with a double own goal from Faes

Nigeria international, Wilfred Ndidi, captains the foxes as Liverpool overcame the foxes owing to two own goals from Belgian defender Wout Faes.

Super Eagles player Wilfred Ndidi was chosen by Brendan Rogers as the team’s captain, although the game at Anfield Stadium ended in loss.

In place of Johnny Evans, Wilfred Ndidi began the match for Leicester City as the captain, along with Daniel Amartey and Patson Daka for the foxes.

In the fourth minute, when the hosts’ shoddy defending enabled Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to ease through the heart of the Liverpool defence, gave Leicester the perfect start.

Under the subsequent open and thrilling first half, both teams had scoring chances, but Liverpool’s equaliser occurred in very peculiar circumstances.

Inadvertently boosting Liverpool’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League, Belgian defender Wout Faes scored two own goals in his team’s 2-1 defeat at Anfield on Friday.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross was attempted to be deflected behind by Faes with seven minutes remaining in the half, but instead the ball looped over Danny Ward and into the net.

The situation for Faes and Rogers’ team took a turn for the worst just before halftime when the defender once again managed to throw the ball in his own goal, this time doing so after Darwin Nunez’s chipped attempt had rebounded off the post.

Ndidi’s countryman Kelechi Iheanacho, though, came off the bench for Leicester City in the 71st minute but had little impact in their attempt to level.

After losing their last two Premier League games, Leicester City will be hoping to rebound when they host Fulham at the King Power Stadium.
