Jamie Mackie says Super Eagles prospect ‘is well up there’ after scoring for Middlesbrough

The Super Eagles hopeful has had an incredible run of play for Middlesbrough and now has nine goals this season.

Super Eagles prospect, Chuba Akpom, has been hailed by EFL pundit Jamie Mackie after scoring for Middlesbrough against Luton Town.

The former Queens Park Rangers striker says that the Nigerian forward has been ‘well up there’ after his header helped Boro secure a 2-1 win against the Hatters at the Riverside Stadium.

Michael Carrick’s men got off to a bad start as Luton’s Jordan Clark produced a stunning single effort from virtually inside his own half, nutmegged Johnny Howson, and then ripped an attempt from 20 yards past Zack Steffen to give the visitors the lead.

That advantage only last five minutes, however, as Akpom levelled the score with his ninth goal of the year after leaping above Amari’i Bell to meet Ryan Giles’ cross.

The Super Eagles target, born in London to Nigerian parents, has enjoyed a fantastic run of form under his new boss, Carrick, after scoring nine goals in 15 match appearances.

Akpom has now contributed to a goal in all six of Carrick’s outings so far, and in seven of his past eight games for Boro.

However, Mackie, while speaking on the Nigerian’s performance, he said:

“Well it helps massively to have a striker in form – another man with nine league goals this season, he’s raking them in, he’s well up there.”

The 37-year-old also revealed that Manchester United icon Carrick has been excellent with managing the team which is crucial for managers

“He’s obviously finding a way to manage what he’s got in the building, and it’s starting to show with 13 points out of their last five matches.”

The 27-year-old, who holds dual nationality and has not represented England at the senior level, pledged his allegiance to his parent’s country in 2019.
