“I’ve always known he will do well” – Says Awoniyi on Super Eagles star

Awoniyi reflects on his reunion with the Super Eagles forward since moving to England from Union Berlin.

Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, has revealed that his fellow countryman, Emmanuel Dennis, will always score goals, having known him for a long time.

Last summer, the former Union Berlin striker moved from Germany to Nottingham Forest for a record-breaking transfer fee of about £17.5 million.

The Garibaldi, though, also pursued Dennis, another Super Eagles player, to join the striker on the squad.

The Tricky Trees decided to attract Dennis to the City ground since he was giving an outstanding performance for his team.

The Nigerian striker Awoniyi then elaborates on how their paths intersected when they were young, playing for different teams, and again when playing for their country.

“He actually went to the football academy in my State when we were really, really young. In the city where I was born, that was where he was playing at his first academy (Kwara Football Academy),” says Awoniyi.

“Sometimes my team went to play them, and they used to beat us about 12-0 because they were a really top academy.” he added

The striker explicitly cited Dennis as a player he can always count on to be a good one both now and in the future.

“From that moment, I’ve always known he will do well and score a lot of goals. And then, when we went to the national team, I knew for sure he’d be a good player.” he said

“We’ve known each other a very long time. He’s a good guy and we have a good relationship.

“I never thought we would end up at the same club together. But the day the gaffer asked me about him, I said, ‘yes, we grew up together and I knew him quite well’. says Awoniyi.

Dennis joined Nottingham in the summer and has contributed one goal and one assist in nine domestic league games.
