“He said he would break my head”- Onyekuru reveals how Morocco star convinced him to join Demirspor

Onyekuru struggled to impress at Olympiakos, but he has found a new home at Adana

Super Eagles striker Henry Onyekuru has revealed that Morocco forward Younes Belhanda influenced his decision to join Turkish Super Lig side Adana Demirspor.

Onyekuru joined Greek side Olympiakos last, but he failed to make an impact despite winning the league. The former Everton man only managed one goal in 27 appearances.

He clearly was not enjoying his time at Olympiakos, and he had to leave.

Several Turkish sides were looking to secure his signature including former champions Galatasaray and Fenerbahce. A transfer to Galatasaray looked like his next move because he already played there before and won the Super Lig.

Surprisingly, Onyekuru opted for a transfer to Adana Demirspor on a season-long loan. The Nigerian attacker, who is enjoying life in Turkey has revealed that Morocco star Belhanda influenced his decision.

“I think if I remember correctly, Belhanda said something like ‘If you don’t come to Adana Demirspor, I will cut your head off, I will break your head. Of course, it was a joke,” Onyekuru told Fanatik as per Goal.

“The reason why he wanted to is that we already have a friendship from the past, we played together on the field.

“On this occasion, he asked me to come, thinking that we would better understand and adapt to each other on the field. It was such a moment.”

Belhanda and Onyekuru were teammates at Galatasaray before Onyekury left the club.

The transfer has since paid off for Onyekuru, as he has enjoyed a fine start to the season recording four assists and two goals in 13 appearances.
