WATCH: “Starboy!” – Super Eagles star praises Ghana Black Stars match-winner Kudus

The young Ghanaian talent produced a performance for the ages to help the Black Stars claim their first win of Qatar 2022

Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has showered praises on Ghana forward Mohammed Kudus after the attacker inspired the Black Stars to a dramatic 3-2 victory over South Korea on Monday afternoon.

Ghana started their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign on a losing note after surrendering to a 2-3 defeat to Portugal on matchday one.

But the Black Stars were in the mood to make amends against South Korea, racing to a 2-0 lead within the opening 34 minutes inside the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan. Salisu and Kudus were the goalscorers.

The Koreans, however, staged an incredible comeback in the second half, with Cho Gue-Sung scoring twice in three minutes to drag the game back on levelled terms.

Ghana, though, did not give up the fight, and Ajax forward Kudus brought the win home with his second goal of the afternoon in the 68th minute. The youngster thus became the first Ghanaian to score two goals in a single World Cup match.

Back at the Ajax training ground in Amsterdam, Bassey watched his club teammate propel Ghana to their first win at the World Cup.

And in a video posted on the club’s official Twitter handle, the Nigeria international hailed Kudus for his match-winning contribution.

Bassey called the 22-year-old Ghanaian forward a “Star boy”, an accolade for one who is shining bright at the moment.

Of Kudus, Bassey said: “Star boy. He’s on fire. He’s on fire. Good player. Crazy, right? I’m happy for him.”

Ghana now have three points from two matches played in Qatar and will advance to the knockout round with a win over Uruguay in their last group match.
