Switzerland 1-0 Cameroon: “Miles ahead of the Super Eagles” – Fans reactions

The Europeans outclassed the Indomitable Lions on a bright, sunny Thursday afternoon inside the Al Janoub Stadium

Cameroon-born Breel Embolo scored the only goal as Switzerland carved out a 1-0 win over Cameroon in their opening match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Cameroon dominated for large portions of the encounter but lacked the quality in the final third to cause the Swiss much trouble.

And early in the second half, the match was decided by a powerful Embolo strike that flew past Onana in the Cameroonian goal.

Embolo, however, refused to celebrate the goal against his country of birth.

Still, several Nigerian fans who watched the game did not believe Cameroon deserved to lose to Switzerland.

Cameroon’s slick skills on the ball, fine organisational setup, and impressive build-up play caught the attention of a few Nigerian supporters.

One Twitter user even rated the Indomitable Lions way above the Super Eagles, who only recently lost 4-0 to Portugal in an international friendly.

Below are some of the fans’ reactions to the encounter:

“This Cameroonian team is actually miles ahead of the super eagles…we can’t dominate any country like they are doing the swiss. I hope they win.”

“They’ve not been clinical upfront They’ve had more opportunities than the swiss side, But their decision-making is just too shallow.”

“This is the same route Senegal went and we all saw how it ended. Too many back passes; nobody wants to take the risk to cut through.”

Group G does not get any easier for Cameroon as the Indomitable Lions will next face Serbia on Monday before slugging it out with Brazil on Friday, December 2.
